Two Blasts Kill 22 In Karachi – Pakistan On High Alert

Two blasts in the southern port city of Pakistan killed twentytwo people, wounded over fifty and virtually paralyzed the city Friday.

In a latest attempt to ignite sectarian violence in Karachi, a terrorist on motorcycle rigged with explosives rammed into a bus carrying people of Shia community Friday at the bridge on Faisal Highway, killing 12 people and wounding 40.

As we were reporting the IED attack on Faisal Highway, a bomb denonated outside Jinnah Hospital’s emergency ward killing at least 10 and injuring another ten people. This is where victims of first attack were brought.

Jinnah Hospital where the victims were brought has confirmed that 22 people were dead and 50 injured. “There are children and women among the killed and wounded,” said Doctor Seemi Jamal, the chief of Jinnah Hospital.

Acording to Waseem Ahmad, Chief of Karachi Police the motorcycle was rigged with an improvised-explosive device (IED).

Area police confirmed that the bus was carrying Shia Muslim mourners to participate in a religious procession to mark the end of the holy month of Muharram in Karachi. Police officer Shahid Hasan who was on the scene told media:“the bus was carrying Shia mourners. It was full of people and a motorcycle rammed into the bus. The motorcycle was completely destroyed and the bus was heavily damaged,”

Incident outside Jinnah Hospital shook the emerency ward. Interior Ministry if Pakistan has said that the entire was on high alert to catch the perpetrators of the violence.
