Death Toll Continues to Climb In Karachi Violence

Seven more were killed on Monday, as the target killing and politically motivated violence continued in Pakistan’s largest city and industrial hub Karachi, bringing the death toll to 27 in last three days.

Several areas of the city witnessed fresh spate of violence which began when two political parties in Qasba Colony and neighboring Orangi Town clashed Friday.

According to the reports unidentifined assailants shot and killed six people on Monday night in Nazimabad. The incident occurred near Nazimabad No 7, in Mujahid Colony.

According to eye witnesses, five armed men opened indiscriminate fire on the laborers who were sitting there. Five of them suffered bullet wounds and were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Two were killed on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries after reaching the hospital. Medical superintendent of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital , Dr Mashhood-uz-Zafar said, “the victims sustained multiple bullet wounds and appeared to be in their early thirties”

Another person was also killed in the same incident and was later identified as Rizwan.

Tension and panic prevailed in Nazimabad, and two more were wounded by heavy firing in different areas of the same town. Later on the same day indiscriminate firing killed 5 killed near Abbasi Phatak, underneath Naimabad bridge.

Another body was found near Al-Madina Hotel near Qasba Morr, which was then taken for a post-mortem to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Unidentified body was shifted to Edhi morgue and it lies there waiting to be identified.

A case FIR 112/10) was registered in Pirabad police station against unidentified assailants under Section 302(Premeditated Murder) and 304( Common Intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Enraged mob blocked Banaras Chowk and set ablaze motorcycle, a shop and an auto-rickshaw and pelted stones on moving vehicles.

A heavy contingent of the Rangers and Police patrolled in the area but their presence was limited to the main roads, and narrow streets where armed men were said to have taken positions were left unsecured.

In wake of the detroirating law and order situation the Sindh government has imposed Section-144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Orangi town, and has cancelled all permits to carry weapons and all residents were directed to deposit their arms at the respective stations.

Fresh spate of violence and target killings has forced people to stay indoors for the third consecutive day.
